In the 1920s, when
the house was owned by the Dickensons, descendents of Judge
Overton, the family built a formal garden east of the main
gallery.

south of the Weaving House, the garden informs visitors about the
kinds of herbs grown by Mary Overton in the early 19th century and
their medicinal uses.

At its pinnacle in
1833, Travellers Rest was a 2300-acre plantation. Today, the
property is surrounded by suburban Nashville and only 9 acres of
Overton's original holdings remain.
