Junior Docent camp
(for ages 10-14)

Two weeks in 2008
June 2-6 and June 9-13
Travellers Rest is pleased to
offer our highly acclaimed Junior Docent Program!
Students will be introduced to the world of museums and discover what it is
really
like to be a docent and counselor at Travellers Rest and other museums in
the Nashville area.
This program is open to students aged 10 to 14 and runs for two weeks.
Campers will spend their first week (June 2nd – 6th) studying Travellers
Rest history,
the Overton family, learning public speaking techniques, visiting three
other museums,
and preparing to be Junior Counselors with the younger campers for their
second week (June 9th–13th).
These future historians will learn leadership and responsibility while
taking away a deeper
appreciation for museums, history and heritage resources.
*Students attending
the Junior Docent program may enroll for additional weeks
of our Summer History Camps at a 50% discount!

learning opportunities…
Junior Docents will have the opportunity during their first week of camp to visit three other museums
in Nashville and whenever possible speak with that museum’s Curatorial,
Interpretive or Educational staff. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore the similarities
and differences of various styles of museums within our community.

junior docent brigade!
Travellers Rest has been very fortunate to have many wonderful, dedicated Junior Docents in the past.
So talented are these young historians, that we invite them on a regular basis to participate and
volunteer their services at special events during the year at Travellers Rest.
From our year-round Scouting programs to the Music Festival in June, our Halloween program in October,
or the Christmas Celebration in December. Our doors are always open to promote the talents and
interests of our young friends. This is truly a special program for those with an interest in history,
acting, or those with a spirit of community service.

Campers will need to bring a packed lunch and drink each day.
Refrigeration is available on all days except for field trips when a cooler
