Registration Form for Home School Programs

19th Century Trades Days- October 23 and 24 (Thursday and Friday); 9:00am-4:00pm

For two days the site will be filled with period artisans demonstrating 19th century skilled crafts, including brick making, pottery making, candle dipping, flint knapping, and more.  Over 30 artisans will be present.

Admission: $10 Adults, $5.50 Kids under 16.
 


The Mound Builders - NOW OFFERED YEAR ROUND TO FIT YOUR CURRICULUM
Explore on of American history's biggest mysteries...the Moundbuilders!  Almost 1,000 years ago these pre-historic Native Americans built a village on the land that is now occupied by Travellers Rest.The Mississippians built complex cities and large earthen mounds
. They had agriculture and far flung trading routes.  Then one day their civilization disappeared and even today no one knows exactly what happened.  Visit Travellers Rest and learn about Tennessee's lost people... Includes: Story Telling and multimedia presentation, Food tasting and Artifact sharing, Green Corn Dance, and Gorget making.

*Historic House tour can be added for an additional $1.00 per student.
Best for 1st-4th graders.

PLANTATION HOLIDAYS
  December 10, 2008; 1.00 pm - 2.30 pm

See how the holidays were celebrated before Santa Claus and Christmas trees! Program includes a customized tour of the historic house, dancing the Virginia Reel, syllabub and food tasting, writing with quill pens on holiday cards, and making an ornament to take home.

Recommended for grades K – 6
Program length is 90 minutes. $5.00 per student
There is no minimum number of students required for this program


THE WORLD OF THE PLANTATION
April 2, 2009; 1.00 pm - 2.30 pm

Discover life on a Middle Tennessee plantation during the early 1800s! This program combines all of our most popular activities to create a picture of life in antebellum Nashville. It includes an abbreviated tour of the historic house, lessons in our schoolroom, playing with old-fashion toys, and writing with a quill pen in autograph books.

Program is adapted for students of all ages.
Program length is 90 minutes. $5.00 per student.

Spring Sampler - May 5th, 2009; 9.00 am - 4.00 pm

Celebrate spring at Travellers Rest!  Visit with us and experience the Tennessee of long ago as you explore Nashville's earliest historic house museum. Craftsmen will demonstrate the skills once common to daily life in the early 19th century.  Interactive activities include candle dipping, corn grinding, quill pen writing, doll making, and seed planting. New this year is a Civil War scavenger hunt!

Recommended for all ages
Program is self-guided. $5.50
 

DELUXE HOUSE TOUR - Offered year-round

Designed especially for those studying Tennessee history, this tour highlights Judge John Overton and the many roles he played in our state's history. This program includes a deluxe tour of the historic house and grounds and all supplies needed for a craft activity to follow up in the classroom.

Program can be adapted for students of all ages.
Program length is 60 minutes. $4.00 per student.
