Beads, Bangles &
Baubles
Learn
about jewelry of the past and create your own masterpieces of
the present at our Junior Scouts program, "Beads, Bangles and
Baubles." Scouts will fashion beads, design jewelry, and
complete a scavenger hunt to locate natural beading supplies.
In addition, a special tour of the historic house will focus on
the mythology and legends of jewels. Join us for a day of
creativity, fun and learning to discover the master jeweler
within you!
Juniors

"Stitching History: An
Old-fashion Sewing Bee" Try-It Program
Join us for a
special Girl Scout sewing bee and learn all about the art of
stitchery and the importance of sewing throughout history.
Brownies will dress up in old-fashioned costumes, sew a 19th
century style purse, and leave their mark on some creative quilt
squares. The day will end with each scout creating a
memory book and take-home embroidery project.

Brownie Scavenger Hunt
Go on a
self-guided Scavenger Hunt at Travellers Rest and earn the
"Travellers Rest" patch! Armed with a map and clues,
Girl Scouts and Leaders will search the grounds to find answers
to our ridiculous riddles. Program package includes: docent
guided tour of the historic house, scavenger hunt, pencils, and
"Travellers Rest" patches for the girls.
Program length is approximately 90 minutes

Available Mondays through Saturdays, 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m
Sundays, 1:00p.m.-4:00p.m.

"Junior Overnight"
Badge Program
Pack up your tent
and gear! Spend the night in a tent camping on the grounds
of Travellers Rest or choose to sleep inside our modern barn!
Tour the historic house, dance the Virginia Reel, weave
bracelets, make toys, and participate in storytelling by the
campfire as you fulfill the requirements of the Folk Arts
badge. An optional creepy lantern tour of the grounds will
be available for those brave enough to participate. Friday
night dessert and Saturday morning breakfast included.

Holiday Decorating at
Travellers Rest
Twelfth Night at
Travellers Rest is a Nashville holiday tradition. Join us
as we roll out the holly and decorate the house for our annual
Plantation Holidays program. Participate in making wreaths
and decorations in the fashion of the early 1800s. This is
a perfect activity for families, scout troops, youth groups, or
anyone interested in getting in the spirit.

Plantation Holidays
Experience the
holidays 1800s style! Tour the decorated historic house,
write with quill pens, make ornaments to take home and dance the
Virginia Reel. Includes dessert and syllabub to drink!

Escape Nashville:
A Civil War Role Playing Game
Travellers Rest
will recreate Union-occupied Nashville on Saturday, April 5th,
from 10a.m. to 4p.m. Participants in this role-playing
game will play the part of a Nashvillian trying to flee the
city. To accomplish the goal, players must earn money and
a pass by completing a number of tasks.
All Ages

"Browning Overnight"
Try-It Program
Spend the night at
Travellers Rest and earn the "Listening To The Past"
Try-It patch! Tour the historic house, participate in
storytelling, dress up in 19th century costumes, make toys from
the past, and wake up to a scavenger hunt! Friday night
dessert and Saturday morning breakfast included. Camping
facilities will be located in a modern building with concrete
floors so please bring sleeping pads.

"Art To Wear" Try-It
Program
Have you ever
thought about clothing as an art? People of the past did;
during the 1800s, specialized artisans created the fashions of
the day from jewelry to clothing. Tour the historic house
and learn the art of 1800s fashion through activities such as
wood block printing, beading, doll making and much more.
