History comes alive through exciting
activities that reinforce learning, creativity, and team
building. Activities include candle dipping,
toy making, gorgets, weaving and much, much more. Each day of
camp is spent learning about a
different group of people who have occupied this land for over

Civil War Camp
July 21-25, 2008 (9-1)
This camp is available for ages 7-10. $125. per week
In 1864 the Confederate Army launched a campaign to re-capture
the city of Nashville that became
known as the Battle of Nashville. Travellers Rest served as the
headquarters for the Confederate
Army during that battle and today students can gain a better
understanding of that tumultuous
time with our Civil War Camp. Each day will include crafts and
games that relate to the Civil War.
Civil war re-enactors, a special scavenger hunt and an optional
overnight stay make this camp a
truly exciting adventure. In addition, campers will dip candles,
cook corn in a fire pit and make their
own haversacks and much more. This program is open to students
aged 7-10 and runs for one week
from 9 am to 1 pm each day. A snack and water are provided.
Extended care is not available this week.
Overnight participation is at an additional cost.

This camp is available for ages 9-12. $175. per week
Travellers Rest is happy to
announce the addition of a new camp this summer which will focus
on the arts and crafts of yesteryear. During the early 19th
century folk arts were a
part of everyday
life, from candles to clothing and most things in between. This
camp is an ideal outlet for aspiring
artists and historians. Each day will be filled with creative
activities such as fabric dyeing, tinsmithing,
candle making and much, much more. All crafty kids are invited
to come learn the artistic traditions
of Nashville’s past at Travellers Rest Folk Arts Camp. Due to
the complexity of some crafts the age range
for this camp will be ages 9-12. Extended care will be
